The Elmont Spartans varsity football team played host to the Garden City Trojans on a beautiful Saturday afternoon, September 15th. The Trojans capitalized on three Elmont turnovers to build a 28-0 lead after three quarters and then went on to win the game by a score of 28-7. Garden City senior wide receiver Justin Guterding tied the school record with three touchdown receptions (from junior starting quarterback Brett Stewart) in the Trojans' 28-7 victory over the Spartans. Guterding's three scoring plays covered 7, 20 and 37 yards, he caught four passes for 80 yards. Stewart ran for 66 yards and threw for 81 yards. The Trojans improve to 2-0. Elmont is 1-1. Next week Garen City will travel to Merrick to take on the Calhoun Colts for a 1:30 game on Sept. 22nd. The Spartans will host the Westbury Green Dragons for a 1:30 game, also on the 22nd. This season the Garden City is defending the Nassau County Class B Championship title that the team won in 2011.
